This table show a decrease in British ocean-going shipping of 83 ships or 90 per cent, and an increase of 441,694 tons or 32.8 per cent. This decrease is due in ships to the number of ships being laid up during the Seamen's Strike. The increase in tonnage is due to large vessels frequenting the Port, also to new locally built vessels.

British river steamers have decreased by 870 ships with an increase in tonnage of 211,933 tous or 97 per cent. in numbers and 126 per cent. in tonnago. This decrease in ships is due to ships being laid up during the Seamen's Strike. The increase in tourage is due to the "Wah Kuel" and "Tin Sing" which were laid up being again put on the run and the 'tweendeck space measurement being included in the tonnage.

Foreign ocean-going vessels have increased by 260 ships with an increase of 1,463,698 tous or 121 per cent. in numbers and 41'6 per cent, in tonnage. This increase is due to more and larger American vessels also German vessels now visiting the Port.

Foreign river steamers show an increase of 434 ships with an increase in tonnage of 152,627 tons or 44 per cent. in numbers and 2-5 per cent. in tounage. This increase is due to the "Hui Hai," "Taion", and "Wo Fu" which were originally steam lighters being converted into River steamers. This increase in tonnage is due to the above mentioned vessels and the 'tweendeck space measurements being included in the tonnage.

The actual number of individual ocean-going vessels of European construction during the year 1922 was 1,092 of which 410 were British and 682 foreign. In 1921 the corresponding figures were 988 of which: 343 were British and 645 foreign.

These 1,092 ships measured 3,202,516 tous. They entered 5,318 times and gave a collective tonnage of 11,000,748 tons.

Thus 104 more ships entered 80 more times and gave a collec- tive tounage greater by 956,320 tons, an average of 11,1200 tons per entry.
